about 12 hours of woodburning; I doubt I will take on a design this intricate in the future. I feel like I should have made the top match the sides. A 6" square pine box.

Very nice. I actually like that you didn't match the top to the sides, because it might have felt too crowded, if it was all the same everywhere. :)

Very nice! I agree...I like the top the way it is...putting a little difference in there makes it all the more interesting to look at...

I intend to finish it with a clear shellac, which is a finish made from bugs or something. The shellac also comes in an amber color but I don't know if the burned design will stand out as well if I stain it a darker color.

You should! Woodburning is so much fun; if you have a hobby lobby or walmart near you, they have all the materials you need, which is mainly and iron kit and some raw wood.

On what the others said if the top was like the rest of the box I think it wouldn't be as exciting to look at and it would probably be to busy or dizzying to look at for very long...... maybe? ^^;
Im surprised with all the detail you didn't just decide to leave your poor hands attached to the box............ in other words that definately looks like A LOT of hard work :nod: I can also see that your already fine tuned skills of woodburning have gotten better, or at least I think they have :)

it took me about two hours to do a side, except for the top, that only took about 30-45 min.

It was a lot of work, and i had to take a lot of breaks because if my hands get tired then I start messing up, and that sucks, but I think it was worth it and really had fun making it.
